The difference between type A silica gel and type B silica gel

There are obvious differences between type A silica gel and type B silica gel in adsorption performance.

Adsorption performance

Type A silica gel: small pore size: Type A silica gel has a small pore size, which makes it perform well in low humidity environments (relative humidity 20-50%). Due to the small pore size, gas molecules are more easily adsorbed on the surface of silica gel, so when the relative humidity is low, the adsorption speed of Type A silica gel is fast.

Large specific surface area: Type A silica gel has a large specific surface area, which further enhances its adsorption capacity. However, due to pore size limitations, its total adsorption capacity may be relatively low.

Type B silica gel: moderate pore size: The pore size of type B silica gel is between coarse pores and fine pores, with an average pore size of 40-70Å (about 4.5-7.0nm), which enables it to show good adsorption performance in a wider humidity range (including high humidity environment).

Specific surface area and pore volume balance: The specific surface area and pore volume of type B silica gel are relatively balanced, which not only ensures a large adsorption area, but also provides sufficient pore volume to accommodate the adsorbed gas or liquid molecules.

Type A and Type B each have their own unique advantages and applicable scenarios. If the application scenario requires rapid removal of trace moisture in a low humidity environment, then Type A may be more suitable; if the application scenario needs to handle a wider humidity range or requires a larger adsorption capacity, then Type B may be more advantageous.
